The Last Day

Today is the last day of the kids' summer vacation. Usually Tuesday is my day off, but I switched for this week and decided to stay home with the kids for their last day. We made M&M pancakes this morning, but haven't decided what else to do with ourselves yet. This day always seems a little bittersweet to me.

Tomorrow we'll get our annual 'Going Out The Door' photo. Here's the layout I did from all the past 'First Days'.

Who knew there was a Potato Day?

Blog Prompt: Today is Potato Day. How do you like your potatoes?

Mashed (but not too creamy, I like the 'bones' left in it) with lots of butter, salt and pepper or fried, preferably in bacon fat or deep-fried from McDonalds or some similar fast food franchise.

I think I need a cholesterol test now :)

Childhood favorites

Blog Prompt - Seventy years ago today the Wizard of Oz premiered. What is your favorite children's movie?

I LOVE Jim Henson's Muppets. From Sesame Street to the Muppet Show and Fraggle Rock, I've been a fan almost since birth. Now I get the privilege of enjoying them again with my own children. Last Saturday night, we all cuddled up on the couch (it was cold and raining outside, so the weather for perfect for movie night) and watched my favorite of all the Muppet Movies, The Great Muppet Caper. And here's one of my favorite lines that makes me laugh every time :)

Funny Friday

Blog prompt: Today is Joke Day. Talk about something that makes you laugh.

I've been told on occasion that I have a strange sense of humor. I've also been told that I'm a very nice person, except for that part of me that has an intense need to laugh at people who are falling down.

My children make me laugh. Clean humor, clever word play and musical fun make me laugh. So, yes, I probably do have an odd sense of humor, but I like it that way.

Here's a clip of one of my favorite comedians, Dennis Swanberg. He's light-hearted and inspiring, so enjoy!

Vacation Wrap-Up

Last Wednesday at this time we were on the road down to Denver, Colorado, for our mini summer vacation. We encountered lots of bikers on their way to and from Sturgis (not surprising), we saw a lot of green grass (a welcome surprise) and had a fantastic time (not surprising, only exhausting). From Wednesday to Saturday of last week we:
  1. Went to the Denver Zoo
  2. Toured the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, where we took in the planetarium and an IMAX
  3. Visited the Tattered Cover bookstore, one of my favorite bookstores ever!
  4. Ate at The Cheesecake Factory, Casa Bonita and SmashBurger
  5. and took in the Rockies/Cubs game at Coors Field

I'm tired just writing that all down! The kids were troopers. I wouldn't say they loved every minute of everything, but they soldiered on and we made some great memories. Here are some of the zoo photos, taken by my very talented husband:

** Scrapbook notes:
Robyn (aka Scrapper Girl) is having a sale at Inspiration-Lane this week. Check out all the fantastic kits, alphas and other stuff...I promise you'll love it all!

Three cheers for Sports Day!!

Today is Sports Day. Are you a sports fan?
Only after getting married have I become any sort of a sports fan. I love watching the Vikings play football. Surprising even to myself, football is my favorite sport to watch. It's so violent! But I love it. Don't ask me why. I remember as a child when Grandpa Harris would be watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys and he tried to explain it all to me, I didn't care. Now I wish I could go back in time, sit on the couch with him and talk football because thanks to my patient husband who explains the same rules to me every year, now I can speak "sport" with the best of them!!
