Living within my means

Blog Prompt: e e cummings once remarked, “I’m living so far beyond my income that we may almost be said to be living apart.” Do you find that more people today are living beyond their income?

Yes, it seems that most people will live well beyond their income for several reasons, I think.
  1. To have what their parents have, or the same lifestyle they enjoyed before they needed to provide for themselves
  2. Because they feel entitled to what they want, whether or not it is good for them
  3. Or they believe that having things will make them successful and happy
  4. Or because they're stupid (how's that for not mincing words?)

My family and I work very hard to live a comfortable life within the means we have. We've learned to live on (horror of horrors!) a BUDGET. If we don't have the money for it, WE DON'T BUY IT!. I admit to being a Dave Ramsey fan and changing my way of thinking about finances has certainly changed my life. I don't miss all the "extras" like eating out or going to movies. And because we've been 'good', I have the privilege of working a part-time job now that I love! If we were in debt (like most of America) I'd be working in a gloomy little cube farm and hating every minute of it. GET OUT OF DEBT, AMERICA..you'll thank me for it, someday!

* Do you think you hit one of my hot buttons with that prompt, Tink? :) *

LOL. I probably took a stab at a lot of buttons with that one. But I agree with you wholeheartedly. Though I could really go off on deadbeat dads/moms given a chance :)

You couldn't have said it better. I feel the same way. I've never understood.......never mind. I would write for hours how I feel about that subject.

I love (and agree) with all of your reasons. Sometimes I think many parents had to do without so they give their kids everything. Then when it is time for these kids to be independent, they don't know how to do without. Then they get in financial straits and their kids have to do without and are back where their grandparents were. This is a vicious cycle.
